The University of Cumbria is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join the Institute of Science and Environment as a Link Tutor, supporting the delivery of our Professional Forester Degree Apprenticeship and Forestry Works Manager Higher Apprenticeship. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to nationally significant programmes within a university renowned for forestry education.

Based at our Ambleside campus, you will become part of a dedicated forestry team that blends academic expertise with professional forest management experience. The team collaborates closely with colleagues in Conservation, Geography, and Outdoor Learning, and benefits from the University's location in the heart of the Lake District, with access to exceptional field sites including our own area of semi-natural woodland.

The University of Cumbria is home to the National School of Forestry, which has been delivering professional forestry courses for over 50 years. Our work includes a growing portfolio of research and knowledge exchange projects, and we maintain strong links with the forestry sector and the Institute of Chartered Foresters.

As Link Tutor, you will take primary responsibility for tracking apprentice progression and play a key role in employer liaison, ensuring productive, collaborative relationships. Your work will foster a culture of progression within our apprenticeship programme—one that generates recognition, respect, and engagement from employer partners.

We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds. Experience in forestry and/or teaching is not essential; you must have a first and/or higher degree and a strong commitment to supporting the education and training of others. Excellent communication, organisational, and networking skills are essential, along with a keen eye for compliance and attention to detail. 

This role is based on-site due to the practical nature of the work.

The Institute of Science and Environment is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic lecturer in outdoor learning with knowledge and experience in outdoor education and the ability to teach outdoor activities.

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual, keen to join an enthusiastic team with a passion for creating transformational learning experiences. You will be integral to the delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as keen to contribute to future developments.  You will have an interest in research specifically within the area of outdoor education and/or learning. Candidates should hold a relevant first and/or higher degree and have a genuine ability to facilitate learning in diverse contexts (class and field based). 

You will join a successful, practical and research informed teaching team with a reputation for innovation in course design and development. Prior experience in teaching in higher education is not essential. For those new to teaching, the University offers a PgC in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education. You will be joining a team of dedicated outdoor enthusiasts from a range of discipline areas to support a thriving undergraduate and postgraduate portfolio including BSc (Hons) Outdoor Adventure & Environmental Studies, BA(Hons) Outdoor Leadership & Education, BSc (Hons) Geography and MA Outdoor Experiential & Sustainability Education. A developing doctoral and post-doctoral research environment focuses on outdoor education, sense of place, bushcraft, therapeutic applications, and broader ecological and environmental management of outdoor resources.
