Lecturer in Fine Art (0.7 FTE)

We are the University of Cumbria, for and from Cumbria and our localities, rooted in serving our communities, with people, place and partnership at our heart.

Now is a very exciting time to be joining us because we are delivering a new "Towards 2030" strategic plan focused on making the most of our three most valuable assets; People, Place and Partnerships, to become a catalyst for economic well-being for our region, nationally and internationally.

We are looking for an ambitious and dedicated individual to join our successful academic team on our BA (Hons) Fine Art degree programme at the Institute of Education, Arts & Society, University of Cumbria.

This is a part-time (0.7 FTE) lecturer position and will primarily involve teaching Fine Art practice, critical and contextual studies and professional development skills.

Our BA (Hons) Fine Art programme is well-established and attracts a range of students, both domestic and international at all levels from Integrated Foundation year to Level 6. Many students choose to go on to postgraduate study, both taught and research, and as such there is a rich learning environment that encourages artistic discourse across the levels and between the other disciplines offered across the Institute of Education, Arts & Society.

The successful candidate will be a successful practicing artist with experience of teaching in Higher Education. Their public profile will be current and they will bring experience of curation, commissions and other public facing outputs and art world processes. Experience of making digital and moving image work would be a desirable attribute for this post.

The post involves studio as well as classroom teaching. The successful candidate will be able to deliver critical and contextual studies with a focus on the period 1850 to the present-day as well as engage students in critical thinking and debate around current issues being explored by the contemporary artist. The appointment will also require that the candidate bring experience and knowledge of professional skills around public outcomes, audience engagement and art world opportunities.

This position would suit an individual seeking to divide their time between their professional practice and their role in academia. They will be confident and self-motivated, they will show initiative and imagination, they will be enthusiastic about the role of art in society and encourage those same qualities in our students.
