Principal Lecturer in Medical Sciences

We are the University of Cumbria, for and from Cumbria and our localities, rooted in serving our communities, with people, place and partnership at our heart. Now is a very exciting time to be joining us because we are delivering a new "Towards 2030" strategic plan focused on making the most of our three most valuable assets; People, Place and Partnerships, to become a catalyst for economic well-being for our region, nationally and internationally.

Medical Imaging education at the University of Cumbria continues to grow in national profile, with a strong reputation for quality, innovation and close partnership with the health and care sector. Our programmes span undergraduate Diagnostic Radiography (both traditional and apprenticeship routes), postgraduate provision in Ultrasound and MRI, and a broad suite of continuing professional development programmes that support workforce development and transformation across the health and care sector. We are also developing new opportunities within medical sciences and imaging as we expand and diversify our educational offer.

The University of Cumbria’s pioneering Diagnostic Radiography Degree Apprenticeship recently won Best Health Apprenticeship at the Apprenticeship Guide Awards 2025. This recognition reflects the innovative design of the programme, its strong partnerships with employers, and its impact on widening access and supporting national workforce development across the NHS.

We are now seeking a Principal Lecturer in Medical Sciences who will play a pivotal leadership role in the continued development of this expanding portfolio focussed upon medical imaging education. We are looking for an individual with a strong professional and academic profile in radiography and medical imaging. You will help shape the next phase of our medical sciences provision, supporting teams across undergraduate, postgraduate and apprenticeship routes, and driving excellence in learning, teaching, assessment, and student experience.

You will also be expected to foster strong relationships with external partners, working collaboratively with NHS Trusts, education networks, and professional bodies to ensure our programmes remain future-focused and sector leading. The ability to innovate, lead change and work across complex systems will be essential.

The University of Cumbria is deeply committed to inclusivity, belonging and widening participation.
