Currently we have over 1100 learners on CPD programmes with formal contracts with 9 out of the 11 English ambulance services, as well as an open access paramedic course at our Lancaster campus. This pedigree in paramedic education has led to the creation of the Centre of Excellence in Paramedic Practice (CEPP), which recently won the Preferred Provider Status for the Southern Ambulance Alliance (SWAST, SCAS, SECAMB, LAS, IoW), East of England Ambulance Service and North West Ambulance Service for paramedic degree apprenticeships. The University now has over 900 registered learners across the 6 apprenticeship programmes. 

The University of Cumbria, are seeking applications for a 2-year fixed term Lecturer. The successful post holder will work with the LAS academic team to deliver the University's BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science to LAS members of staff who are undertaking the Paramedic Science Degree Apprenticeship.  

The post will be based in London. The post holder should be an appropriately registered healthcare professional with experience of working within the pre-hospital environment as well as experience in delivering either ambulance based pre-hospital education or Higher Education Institution based healthcare education. Post holders will be supported to complete the first module of the postgraduate certificate in learning and teaching in higher education if this has not been achieved already. In addition, a bespoke induction programme will be available for new starters to engage with to support their transition into Higher Education.

The post, while a secondment to the University, will be based in London however there may be the requirement to travel to neighbouring Trusts to support the delivery of the same programme. We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Lecturer in Nursing to join our academic team. This is an exciting opportunity to support the education of future nurses while contributing to innovative nursing programmes that respond to the needs of healthcare services and communities.

You will contribute to teaching and learning across a range of programmes including MSc Nursing, BSc Nursing, Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship and Nursing Associate programmes. Working collaboratively with colleagues and practice partners, you will help deliver high-quality teaching, support students’ professional development and contribute to curriculum innovation.

About the role

As a Lecturer in Nursing, you will:

Deliver engaging teaching in a range of settings including lectures, seminars and skills sessions

Contribute to module leadership and curriculum development

Support students through academic supervision, assessment and pastoral care

Supervise student projects and practice learning where appropriate

Contribute to scholarly activity and the development of evidence-informed teaching

Work collaboratively with colleagues and healthcare partners

Participate in recruitment activities such as open days and applicant interviews

You will play an important role in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that inspires students and prepares them for contemporary nursing practice.

About you

You will be a registrant with the NMC and be passionate about nursing education and committed to delivering an excellent student experience.

You will be expected to actively engage with professional research/knowledge exchange and scholarship to support teaching activities and extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship and research to teaching. As well as the requisite academic and technical skills, the post holder will be required to evidence their ability to work as part of a team demonstrating skills in project and time management and a passion for teaching and learning.

Although desirable, prior experience of teaching in higher education is not essential. For those new to HE teaching, the University offers a PgC in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education.

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to join the Academic Technical Services team, supporting Faculty of Health colleagues with delivery of simulation based education and clinical skills sessions at the University of Cumbria’s Lancaster campus.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining safe, organised and effective lab environments while providing support to other technical and academic colleagues.

Main responsibilities would include:

• Daily support and set up of the practical elements of programme delivery, involving a range of clinical simulation equipment;
• Demonstrating good teamwork and collaboration with other members of the Faculty technical team, to ensure effective management of any clinical spaces;
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements of equipment and substances hazardous to health (COSHH).  

This role would ideally suit someone with technical experience within higher education or a school or college environment, but applications are welcome from individuals of all backgrounds.
