The University has invested in a new Institute of Engineering, Computing and Advanced Manufacturing (IoECAM) in partnership with BAE. Based in Barrow-in-Furness, this development is seen as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform participation and access to education in a location with major industrial national importance.

In this open call, we are initially recruiting for one Professor and two Senior Lecturers who will work along-side and report to the newly appointed Director of IoECAM We are seeking dynamic and creative people who can balance excellence in teaching with innovation in research in Computer Science or Advanced Manufacturing. 

You will contribute to the development of a vibrant academic community by delivering high-quality learning to students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition to a well-developed and current knowledge of your subject, you will hold a PhD in a relevant subject and have (or be committed to obtaining) a relevant HE teaching qualification. The successful candidate will be able to inspire and connect with students from a wide range of backgrounds and be committed to proactively guiding and contributing to the development of STEM and raising aspirations and education opportunities across the county. 

Professor of Computing

We are now seeking to appoint a Professor of Computing, to lead on the academic development of this subject area across the University and promote the discipline externally. You will be expected to develop a portfolio of research and engagement activities that enhances the reputation and capacity of the University. An ability to work with key partners, in particular BAE Systems and its supply chain, will be essential to scope out exact business requirements and develop relevant provision. 

You will demonstrate recognition by their peer community as a significant contributor to your field and have an established or high potential emerging international reputation. You are also expected to be able to demonstrate a substantive body published work constituting major points of reference alongside a track record of attracting and delivering funded research projects as Principal Investigator, experience of supervision of academic and/or post-doctoral research staff and a record of successful completions of students supervised to PhD level.

Your initial focus will be on the development of the academic offering at Barrow-in-Furness and rolling-out new taught courses from 2024.

This permanent post is offered full-time but may be taken up on a part-time or job share basis. You will be campus-based in Barrow-in-Furness, with some opportunity for hybrid working, dictated by business need.
